2022 Highlights from Pulse
Webinar series highlighting 2022 hot topics in the field of vascular research and pulsatile phenomena.
Pulse in collaboration with Pulse of Asia (PoA) and the Korean Vascular Research Working Group (KVRWG) invite renowned researchers and clinicians to discuss current topics in vascular research and pulsatile phenomena. The articles previously published or coming out of these discussions can be found in the 2022 issues of Pulse.
Cuffless BP Measurement: Challenges and the Future
This webinar was focused on cuffless BP measurement – challenges and the future. Prof. Alberto Avolio, from the Macquarie University School of Medicine, discussed “challenges presented by cuffless measurement of blood pressure if adopted for diagnosis and treatment of hypertension” and Dr. Jongmo Seo, from Seoul National University and Seoul National University Hospital, discussed “photoplethysmography and tactile mechanical transducer for noninvasive continuous BP monitoring”. After the two presentations, Prof. Chen-Huan Chen, from National Yang-Ming University, and Prof. Hae-Young Lee, from Seoul National University Hospital, each comment on one of the presentations.

Covid-19 Impact on Vessels & Immunity
This webinar was focused on the impact of covid-19 on vessels and immunity. Prof. Pierre Boutouyrie, previous President of ARTERY, shared his expert knowledge on the impact of covid-19 on the vasculature. Prof. Eui-Cheol Shin, a renowned immunologist, talked about immune responses in covid-19 patients with hyper-inflammation on the vasculature. Both presentations were followed by engaging questions by Chair Prof. James Sharman, from Menzies Institute for Medical Research.
How to Apply Theory to Clinical Practice
This webinar was focused on the translation from theory to clinical practice. Editor-in-Chief Jeong Bae Park, MD, PhD (Seoul) talked about arteriosclerosis and atherosclerosis in clinic and Hao-min Cheng, MD, PhD (Taipei) talked about the potential effects of pulsatile energy on cognitive function. Prof. Ki-Chul Sung, President of KVRWG, chaired the webinar and coordinated questions from the attendees of the live event.

Clinical Use of Pulse Wave Velocity
This webinar is a video recording of a discussion around a consensus article recently published by Pulse of Asia and the Korean Vascular Society on the ‘Clinical Use of Pulse Wave Velocity’. Chaired by Pulse’s Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Jeong Bae Park, and Associate Editor, Prof. Alberto Avolio, the discussion focused on four key points:
- PWV, is it really methodically different? - Alberto Avolio (Sydney, AU)
- How to standardize PWV measurement? - Bart Spronck (Maastricht, NL), James Sharman (Tasmania, AU), and Rosa Maria Bruno (Paris, FR)
- How to increase clinical use of PWV? - Kazuomi Kario (Tochigi, JP)
- Perspectives of PWV use in clinical and research settings - Yan Li (Shanghai, CN)
All co-authors of the medical consensus article participated in the discussion of the above points. With the article and discussion, both societies thrive to clarify the significance and potential of Pulse Wave Velocity’s clinical use in Asia.
