Not a Journal but the Journal
The history of Hormone Research in Paediatrics (HRP) begins in 1970 when Prof. Marois started publishing “Hormones” with the medical and scientific publisher Karger. In 1976 the Journal name was changed into Hormone Research and Prof. Girard (1976-1995) took over the position of editor in chief. Afterwards, the Journal was edited by Prof. Ranke (1996-2003) and Prof. Czernichow (2004-2013) who changed the name into Hormone Research in Paediatrics to emphasize the paediatric focus of the Journal. In fact, the history of the Journal soon intertwined with the history of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) founded in 1962 and HRP became the official Journal of ESPE. I have the honor to edit HRP since 2014 and in the last six years, thanks to the commitment of the Associate Editors and Editorial Board as well as the continuous and strong support by Karger, HRP has become a reference journal for all Paediatric Endocrinologists worldwide. HRP is now the official journal not only of ESPE but also of the Pediatric Endocrine Society (PES) and Sociedade Latino-Americana de Endocrinologia Pediatrica (SLEP). The number of high-quality submissions is constantly rising, and HRP has achieved an Impact Factor of 2.174 and CiteScore of 4.4 in 2019.
To celebrate this 50th anniversary of HRP we have provided a collection of ten among the most cited past papers in a special collection of the journal. I have made the selection which is in itself arbitrary as so many excellent papers have been published and highly cited so far. I hope that the (re)reading of these articles will be an opportunity to refresh your knowledge of the different topics and reaffirm your trust in HRP which is not a but the Journal in paediatric endocrinology.
